IMPORTANT NOTE TO USERS OF rKey 1.0 to 1.3 :
Version 1.4 of rKey is NOT compatable with earlier versions! There are
several reasons for this (see "THE FUTURE OF rKey" below). If you have an
application that is currently using rKey 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, you have to
decide among one of the following courses of action :
(1) Keep using the version that you have now. This is the ONLY way that
your existing registration keys will remain valid. Unfortunately,
this will not allow you to take advantage of any of the enhancements
available in RkPlus, or the reduction in memory usage with rKey 1.4.
(2) Upgrade to rKey 1.4. This is fairly simple. You will have to remove
registration levels and dates, and regenerate keys, but you should only
have to make slight code modifications. In addition, your program
should become somewhat smaller. If you have registered any version of
rKey ($10 or more), you are already registered for rKey 1.4.
(3) Upgrade to RkPlus 2.0. This is a bit more involved, but carries with
it many advantages. If you have already registered any version of
rKey ($10 or more), you can register RkPlus AND rKey for $10. If you
have not yet registered rKey, you can register both for $20.
RkPlus is, by far, the most powerful of the two (rKey and RkPlus), however it
is also over twice as large. The decision on which unit to use must,
ultimately, lie with you, the programmer. If you aren't sure which unit you
should use, or have any trouble converting (to rKey 1.4 or RkPlus 2.0) feel
free to contact me via any of the methods listed in RKPLUS.DOC.

THE FUTURE OF rKey
Since completing the RkPlus Enhanced Registration Key Unit, I've been unsure
what to do with the old, original rKey. Since RkPlus will do everything that
rKey does (and more), there doesn't seem to be a lot of use for rKey. However,
I went back in and trimmed it down wherever possible, to make a very small (and
simple) registration key unit. I removed registration levels and the
registration date and the TPU is now under 10K. rKey is now user registration
at its most simple. It will take a name and encrypt it into a 12 digit
hexadecimal key and create a .KEY file containing the information. If you need
registration levels (or any of the new enhanced features of RkPlus) I suggest
that you obtain a copy of RKPLUS20.ZIP, which contains everything you need to
handle multiple encryption strings, registration levels, limited use demo keys,
etc.
I will continue to support rKey and, possibly, release new versions of it (in
its new, smaller incarnation), but the vast majority of my development time
will be spent on RkPlus.
